GeneratorPortent The Idea Generator from Portent is as simple as it gets. Just throw in a keyword and go to town. This generator has some personality and adds little jokes and jokes in bubbles next to the topic suggestions.
As usual with these generator tools, some blog topic suggestions will come off a little silly, but spend plenty of time on this and you’re sure to find some gems.
3. Build the ideas generator of your own blog
The ideas generator for blog posts of Build Your Own Blog is a bit different because you do not keyword input which is related to your industry – just tap the “Generate Ideas for blog post” button and go off of you .
You should of course adapt these suggestions to your target audience. The ideas aren’t really brilliant, but you might find something that appeals to you.
Some titles that this generator of random blog topics gave when I had my hand on it:
- X Myths about….
- 10 Things Your Competitors Can Teach You About…
- Top X Must Have For _________
- 7 Reasons Why ___________ Always Works
4. Blog Title Idea Generatorblog title
This idea generator from Inbound Now is essentially the same as the one listed above. It is well. You will likely find some nice blog post title ideas. There is not much else to say.
5. Link Bait Generator
The Link Bait Generator isn’t as flashy as the other blogging ideas, with a simplistic, barebones design.
Type in your keyword and then choose if you want to write a blog post that is:
- Controversial
- Fun
- A List
- Shocking
What’s interesting about Link Bait Generator is that it gives you a nice insight into which phrasing or title structures work best depending on which type of message you want to write. No other blog post idea generator takes into account what kind of style or twist you are shooting.
When I said I wanted controversial topics, I got ideas like:
- X things the media hasn’t told you about _________
- The connection between X and sex. (Heh heh, I’m curious to post PPC here)
- X Reasons Why ________ Is The End Of The World As We Know It
While the suggestions for some flavors may be a bit too buzzfeed-ish, they certainly strive for clickability. I consider the Link Bait Generator to be an interesting little dive into human psychology to help you think about what makes people tick and what kind of wording turns them on.

6. ContentIdeator Ideas Generator for
ContentIdeator blog topics is another that offers suggestions based on the keyword you enter. What sets ContentIdeator apart is that it generates pages and pages of suggestions (although it starts to look like crap on page 4).
Some suggestions are strangely specific. For example, typing ‘art’ gave me ideas for blog topics such as:
- Reasons to Start Your Own Stamp Collection
- Music and Art Are Inseparable ‘A Look at Ronnie Wood Art
- What Batman Can Teach Us About Cartoon Fonts
Other suggestions are ridiculously vague. My first four suggestions were generated:
- How to Buy Modern Art Modern art
- online modern art
- foundways omte and buy Art
- choose
You must enter a broad keyword to get results. My search for “health food” yielded only one suggestion (and it was a weak one), while “health” worked fine.
I’d recommend moving to other tools sooner, but if you’re willing to dig around a bit, you might find a topic that appeals to you.
7. Content StrategyHelper
The Content StrategyHelper Built Visible is actually a Google Doc tool that ideas for blog topics directly generates in your Google Spreadsheet.
The tool gathers information from Google News, Google Insights, Reddit, YouTube, Topsy and more sources to show the stories everyone is talking about. As a bonus, it also offers outreach contacts for relative topics, which is always helpful.
This tool is different in that it provides information about existing stories. However, looking at these hot topics can influence your content strategy choices and also make it easier to find newsworthy stories that you might want to hop on the train for.
While not a blog topic generator in the classic sense, the Content Strategy Helper isn’t a bad content tool to have in your arsenal. However, if you have your own preferred tool for keeping up with popular news stories, you probably won’t gain much by using Content Strategy Helper.
8. Buzzsumo
Buzzsumo is my favorite tool. It is similar to the tool mentioned above as it shows the most popular existing articles (versus pure drafts for articles).
Buzzsumo is a great study in what types of title structures and topics are most attractive. It’s simple and easy to use – search by topic or site URL (it’s always a good idea to check out your competitor’s topic articles).
Don’t forget to mess around with the filters too. If you are looking for newsworthy articles, limit the search parameters to the last week or month.
3 Final Tips for GeneratingTitles & Ideas
- Blog PostBlog, Borrow, Steal. What headlines do you see that arouse your interest? Steal that headline and customize it for your own purposes. Imitation is flattery x5!
- Same but different. You will find that the ideas of most of these topic generators are largely the same. These generators use formulas that work and apply them to your main themes. If you find yourself preferring one generator over another, go ahead and stick with that generator.
- Expand Upon Generator Ideas. The “X Things You Don’t Know About ___________” is a standard blog topic. It is excessive and used a lot, but it’s still spit out as a good idea because it works – it generates nieuwsgierigheid.Wees not afraid of any of these structures using proven blogs, but make sure you have some added creativity to make it your own.
