BlogIf you are thinking of starting a blog of your own, but have no idea what to blog about, don’t fear!

Example of a Blog Post

In this article, I’ve included a slew of blogging examples from a wide variety of different niches, all of which run on different blogging platforms, such as WordPress, Joomla! and Drupal.

Millions and millions and millions of blogs have been created since the dawn of the Internet. Many have died as a result of lost interest or if their owners have given up on the idea, while others have and continue to grow, thrive earning money and their owners a steady income. It’s a constant evolution of content that keeps people coming back for more, especially when these blogs get in touch with very resourceful material that people find useful and interesting.

Each example mentioned in this blog post is all different in one way or another and each brings something unique to their readers and subscribers. I want to show you what is possible and how you can get inspiration from it and create a great blog yourself.

Some of these blogs make over $ 100k a month, others are just a hobby for their owners, but they all have the same goal at their core… the love of writing and sharing information.

Examples of thrifty blogs blogs

Thrifthave really taken off over the past 3 years, mainly thanks to the state of the world economy. Saving money and being thrifty with your wages is extremely popular as people nowadays have less and less money after paying rent, mortgage, bills etc. Creating a blog about thrifty / saving money can also be a big earner for you, especially if you choose a good approach to tackle this niche. The following examples all have very good perspectives. They target a specific demographic and create content that they will love, share, and take action with. These promotions allow you to earn money through affiliate links, Google Ads and coupons.

Miss Thrifty

One of the more popular thrift blogs in the UK, Miss Thrifty targets young moms with her money-saver, thrifty tips and articles. Rightly so! The market is huge and it fulfills a need for this type of information. Young mothers don’t exactly roll in cash. They may have had to stop working and are now relying on just one wage coming in, so the need to be more economical with everyday life is a must.

The great thing about this blog is the easy-going tone and the real person behind the brand. I think it’s inspiring for other moms to see someone like her make such a difference in other people’s lives by creating amazingly useful content that is 100% usable. It can also inspire mothers to set up their own blog and write about their experiences as mothers and wives in the 21st century.

Skint Dad

So when I’m talking about getting into a niche from a different angle, this example is exactly what I’m talking about. Skint Dad is a site that helps young / new dads save money and be more economical in their daily life. There’s also a section on there that shows guys how to make a little more money on top of their monthly daily wages, which is vital in keeping your head above water in some cases. Many new dads have the added stress of not having their wives ‘or girlfriends’ wages come in every month, due to the temporary career change as a full-time mom of a baby. So having some content on how to make a few extra “Ps” in their wallets every month can ease the burden somewhat.

Entrepreneurship Examples

BlogSolopreneurHour.com

A very well designed and slick blog that is all about being your own boss and creating your own wealth. It’s a blog with a very active podcast feed. Their podcasts are insanely popular on iTunes, and they no doubt make quite a bit of money selling ad space on those podcasts. Podcasts are something to consider when creating your blog as it can be a great monetization tool.

BreakingintoStartups.com

A very inspiring blog with motivational stories about startups and the people who work in them and create them. If you need a pick-up after a bad day at the office or don’t think you can become that person to get on with it and start something great, why not read it. You will soon hear about people who literally only wore the shirt on their back and who became successful in business and in life.

Examples of Tech Blog Blogs

One of my favorites is the “tech blog”. This is not something new to blog about as tech bloggers have been blogging online in detail about technology news and gadget reviews since the beginning of the internet, but since it is such a huge niche you could come up with a really good angle within the tech blogging sphere. The trick is to have your own take on technology and not just follow the trend. One area that hasn’t really been specifically covered is eco-technology, so something to consider. Perhaps a blog specifically related to technology intended to become more environmentally conscious.

Anyway, here are a few blogs in the tech niche that I really like that I think are doing slightly differently and thriving when it comes to organic increases in traffic and revenue.

Knowtechie.com

I’ve been following this site from the start and I’ve seen its progression from just one guy writing about things he loves to a site that gets decent traffic and has a team of writers.

Knowtech is a great example of a site that started as a hobby, but has quickly become a business. I also like the angle they have. “Tech News For The Non Techie”. KnowTechie is a blog for people who love tech, but live outside the bubble. This is so refreshing because there are so many tech blogs out there that are a little too technical and full to the brink of jargon. It’s nice to see a tech blog that has lowered the entry level to tech news.

Examples of Makethrifty

Money Blogs Likeblogs, make money blogs have become insanely popular since the global economy has been on a decline in recent years. The need to make more money to have an “Ok” quality of life is increasing year after year. Wages are not rising, jobs are becoming less secure and the cost of living is constantly rising. This is why sites like the one below in this section are growing in popularity.

Again, if you come up with a different angle to this niche, you could potentially have a great and successful website on your hands.

SideHustleNation.com

Side Hustle is an online community of entrepreneurs whose goal is to gain financial freedom by establishing companies that can help them do that. There is a collection of very useful blog posts on how to earn extra income on top of your daily wages. They make good use of the podcast medium of content marketing by creating different podcasts with experts talking about a whole range of topics around entrepreneurship, making money online and creating wealth.

MyWifeQuitHerJob.com

A great site, which is very helpful and inspiring for people who want to change their 9 to 5 lives for something that will allow them to live a little and spend more time with the family. The site is very simple and something you could build yourself on WordPress in a matter of days, but the content is where this site excels. Podcasts, tools, tutorials and blog posts targeting a specific niche is where this guy makes his money. His podcasts are very popular and if you have content that gets a lot of ears and eyes then the ad revenue will too.

The same goes for written content. If you have a popular page that gets tens of thousands of views per month, you may be able to sell ad space on those pages for hundreds of dollars per month, if not more.

Examples of Mommy Blogs

Mommy blogs are blogs aimed at parents, especially women. Here is my pick of the best mom blog examples that I think are worth looking at. They provide information that is resourceful and can make parenting that little bit easier. Most revenue is generated by sponsored post and display ads.

GiovannaFletcher.com

Giovanna is a writer, blogger, vlogger and mom. Her blog content is mainly about her life as a mother and wife. She hosts a very popular podcast called Happy Mum, Happy Baby Podcast.

I like the variety of content on her blog. She mixes it between informative blog posts about family life, what’s going on in her world and tips for moms and really cool podcasts that cover a variety of topics related to parenting and being a mom. The fact that she’s not that hard to sell at all is refreshing.

CupOfJo.com

Joanna, one of the best mom bloggers out there, has a really simple looking blog, packed with useful stuff for moms old and new alike. What I like about this site is the simplicity of the theme, the really current design features and the typography. The blog post ideas are also very smart and set Jo’s site apart from all the other mommy bloggers.

Little Momsense

Another well thought out and well designed mom blog. This blog is quite varied in terms of content as it contains a little bit of everything. If you like parenting, cooking with the kids, tinkering with the kids, health, family travel, stories, charity etc. this site will give you a lot of inspiration on how to start your own mommy blog.

motherhooddiaries.com

Motherhood Diaries is an online parenting platform where parents and expectant parents can share their views, expertise and solutions on all topics related to pregnancy and parenting. Leyla, who owns and maintains MHD, builds her traffic by targeting specific keywords related to parenting and creating resources around those phrases. She is also focusing her efforts on social channels such as Pinterest and Facebook to create a lucrative audience through an alternative traffic source to Google.

ParentingExamples

We the Parents

BlogWeTheParents.org is one of my favorite parent blogs. Rather than getting mom or dad’s opinion, you get both sides of the parenting story. The content is a real mix, Neve the mom tends to write about mom stuff while her husband, Keane, appears to be a big kid who spends his time playing with and looking at children’s toys.

The main purpose of this blog is to make parents’ lives easier by doing the research for them. It can be tricky to search through Google and find the best products, so this mom and dad team is going to be geeks trying to figure out which products are best for the whole family. (And what equipment is just a waste of money!)

The site is beautifully designed and quick to load. It’s a great example of a simple WordPress theme that is well-customized.

Examples Of Adventure

The Adventure

BlogsBlog Examples Of Food / Wine Blogs

Pinch Of Yum

My favorite food blog is this one. I just love the style, design and tone of the voice. Lindsay has really made blogging an art, not just writing, but knowing how to make money blogging. I think she has a huge email list that she has built over the years that she can literally print money on. By targeting her email list with her latest blog posts, affiliate links, deals, offers and coupons, she will make a lot of money every month.

I also love her blogger resources page. A smart way to inspire other bloggers to take the plunge and use what they use to create a successful food blog.

Cookie & Kate

A very slick and beautifully designed food blog. Like Pinch of Yum, Cookie + Kate knows how to create engaging food content that effectively connects with their audience.

iama foodblog.com food blogger

Another who fully understands the power of quality content and how to make money from a website. Stephanie Le’s food blog is simple in design and content. The things she posts are 100% usable. All recipes can be made at home and she brings the content to life with great quality food photography. She gives it a personal touch by adding some commentary and background to the photos.

There is also a really clever monetization method that she uses for this “What’s in My Kitchen? Utensils Edition.” She can easily add affiliate Amazon links to monetize this page by recommending quality products who use them daily.

This is a great example of an excellent food niche blog. Think about what she’s doing well and pay attention. Delightful photos, clean and simple theme layout, well-formatted and stylized recipe pages, excellent writing, conversational tone, and recognizable background stories to every post.

12 × 75

12 By 75 is by far one of my favorite wine blogs. It is well written and the information you will access is through one of the most influential wine merchants in the industry. There are not many blogs that are written in the same tone as if your good friend is talking to you about a particular topic. A great example of a blog written from pure passion for the subject. Check out their tribute to Bruno Mars.

Examples of Personal Development Blogs

If you are looking, start a personal development blog that teaches people and gives advice on how to improve themselves emotionally and spiritually, check out the great examples I’ve listed below to get you exactly right see what you can do if you work hard enough at it.

tinybuddha.com

Again, this is a very simple site in terms of structure but has a very good angle. It was started by Lori Deschene, the author of Tiny Buddha’s Guide to Loving Yourself. The site is all about simple wisdom, inspiration, relationships and mindfulness, which has gained popularity over the past 2 years. There are many posts on this site that are based on the teachings of Buddhism, but also include things about relationships, healthy living, and many other mindfulness-related content.

I showed you this example of a personal development blog for its simplicity. You don’t have to recreate the wheel to create a popular blog within your niche. As long as you target the right niche and target that niche with resourceful content, you have a winner.

Examples of Crafty Blogs

Crafting is a niche area of blogging that has grown in popularity with the rise of Pinterest. Crafty blogs can be broad umbrella sites that encompass the play of creative crafty hobbies, or they often delve further into specific crafts such as sewing, embroidery, origami, children’s crafts, and more.

For the pro bloggers out there, it’s worth noting that crafting is a saturated market. There are many bloggers out there who make a comfortable living, but the competition is fierce and to make waves, bloggers have increasingly higher demands on content creation.

TheCraftyNeedle.com Shapes

A great example of a modern blog reviewing an old craft over and over again. The Crafty Needle specializes in all things sewing, embroidery and quilting. While these may seem like trodden disciplines, this blog regularly invites cutting-edge specialists to reveal their newly discovered tips and techniques. The content also focuses on trending sewing fashions and how home sewers and quilters can create garments that are both modern and feasible.

I love this site both for the modern twist they put on handicrafts, but also because the design is great and fresh – as opposed to the overly cute and often amateurish look of many hobbyist craft bloggers.

Examples of

Fitness Blogs There are literally thousands of fitness blogs on the Internet in one form or another. It’s a popular niche and one that can be lucrative if you promote the right product or offer something different from the rest of the fitness blogs out there.

Below I’ve added fitness blogs that do what they do incredibly good at and examples that give you insights and inspiration.

NiaShanks.comblogshapes

A very popular fitness, mainly aimed at women, where women of alland sizes are positively encouraged to get fit and start with weights and strength training. Nia writes inspiring and powerful blog posts about how women can get fit, healthy and ripped by doing effective bodyweight exercises. She also promotes the mantra that exercise should never be considered a punishment for eating.

I love this site because it has purpose and a clear message that resonates with its readers. A great tip to take with you that you should try to use when starting your own health and fitness blog.

Examples of WordPress Development

Blogs Here are a few examples of blogs that help people develop their own blogs in WordPress and provide advice and tutorials on WordPress website development. These sites tend to monetize their traffic by posting Adsense ads on their pages or signing up with various affiliate programs to promote certain web development products and WordPress themes and services.

SiteBeginner.com User Friendly

A very clean and simple design with information on a variety of web development topics on theWordPress.org blogging platform.

Wptavern.com

WordPress Tavern is a site that is very simple in construction and design, yet is extremely popular with the WordPress developer community. It focuses on everything related to WordPress from plugins to WordPress tutorials, they cover most of the things you want to learn about WordPress. This proves that your blog doesn’t have to be flashy with bells and whistles. A simple theme with resourceful and useful content is all it takes to make your site a great success.

Affiliate / Online MarketingExamples

BlogGaps.com

This is a new site launched by in January 2017 Glen Allsop.

This site will become extremely popular. Not only because it is Glen who is an excellent online marketer who created the monster that is ViperChill, but because the content is exceptional and inspiring. The only thing that struck me about incredibly popular blogs is the presence of what I call “The I Factor”. It sounds cheesy, but if you can inspire people to do something great with your content, whether that’s to get more traffic to their website, make great cupcakes, lose 20 pounds, save money on you food store or an incredibly popular online business then your blog will keep growing and growing and become the site you wanted to create in the first place.

Gaps.com is certainly one of those sites that inspire people to create their own profitable blogs and businesses.

Examples of Travel

Blogs of assignment.comBlogs blogs

Examples of Photography

Here is my pick of the best examples of photography that I think are worth checking out. They offer something a little different from what’s on the internet right now, which is what can make a popular and profitable blog.

Erickimphotography.com

I think the tone of voice on this blog is exceptional. If only everything were written this way. It’s friendly, clear, easy to read, and inspiring. I like the way they handle the simple things about photography with posts like “Shoot Different” and “Why your smartphone is the best camera”. Enjoy this site. I did.
